Blue-green algae confirmed on Deer Lake in Almaguin

A blue-green algae bloom is being monitored on Deer Lake in Almaguin.

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit first reported on the toxic bloom on Friday. Health officials say, while not all residents on the lake will be affected, it’s very difficult to tell where the toxins are spreading. Because of this, all residents are advised against using lake water for cooking, bathing or washing for now.

The toxins in the bloom can cause stomach sickness if ingested and skin rashes.

You can find more details on the health unit’s test results here.
