The lockdown at Beaver Creek has been lifted.

Correctional Service Canada says it’s wrapped up an “exceptional search” at the medium-security prison in Gravenhurst.

The search and lockdown were ordered last Monday. CSC says it was to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.

The search turned up a number of contraband and unauthorized items. CSC says it’s beefing up security measures to prevent such items from getting into prisons in the first place.

All normal operations, including visits, have resumed at Beaver Creek.
