Historic Black Bridge to be replaced with $2.4 million replica

Bracebridge’s Black Bridge is getting a $2.4 million overhaul.

The price tag for the Matthiasville Road bridge replacement was reported to Bracebridge council last week. The town will be looking to bring in a one lane replica of the historic bridge, painted black and offering a pedestrian walkway as well. The aging bridge was becoming a structural concern for the town, and officials met with the public last year to figure out what to do with the historic Muskoka River crossing. The town eventually landed on the replica plan.

Town officials have already applied for about $1.8 million in provincial funding to help offset the cost of the bridge replacement. The work is expected to start next May.
