Bracebridge Hospital Hits Fundraising Target in 6 Months

South Muskoka Hospital Foundation needed only six months to hit a big target.

A campaign to raise funds for 36 beds and 10 monitors was originally scheduled for a 12-month run, but the $320,000 was raised in half that time.

Board Chair of the Foundation, Mark Gidley, was thrilled with the result.“We had residents and businesses from all over South Muskoka step up and support the

Cause,” said Gidley. “I’m impressed. Once we told the community these were urgent needs, they came through for us.”

Each bed cost $7,500 and monitors were $10,000 each.

Muskoka Chrysler was first up to fund a bed and monitor, while Brock Napier purchased 10 beds.

Other groups and families combined to help raise funds for items.

With the beds and monitors off the list, the Foundation is turning to a $2 million requirement for emergency health care equipment.

SMHF’s Colin Miller, an executive director, says “These funds will be used to purchase much-needed equipment for other departments that support the ER, like our lab and diagnostic imaging department.”
