Pride Prepares for First-Ever Parade On Sunday

For the first time in Muskoka Pride’s ten years, there will be a parade as part of the festivities.

Pride Organizer Shawn Forth says the reason there have not been previous parades was the perceived red tape for getting such an event off the ground.

“We thought for the 10th anniversary, let’s do it,” Forth said.

He said the logistics have been considerable, but the important ingredient is the volunteers.

“We are lucky to have a lot of volunteers that are excited,” he said.

The participation from the corporate community has been very exciting he added.

Forth says the more intimate size of the Muskoka Pride celebration has been what helps make the event stand out against more visible events such as the Toronto and Montreal pride parades.

Muskoka Pride will cap off its celebration in Bracebridge on Sunday at 11:30 am with the Parade starting on Manitoba Street. Immediately following, is the Pride Picnic from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Memorial Park, featuring vendors, entertainment, and free food.
