OPP says calls about McGruff Child ID and safety kits are not a scam

Police say a so-called scam hitting Muskoka is not a scam at all.

A representative with the National Crime Prevention Council has been contacting locals to distribute McGruff the Crime Dog Child ID and safety kits. Bracebridge OPP says the representative contacted police after reports online suggested his activities were criminal in nature. Police say the representative and his organization are legitimate and their operations are legal.

However, the OPP says locals should still always be cautious when contacted by a salesperson. You should always ask for ID and you’re not under any obligation to let someone in your home if you don’t feel comfortable.
