District to review mechanical problems with Port Carling lift bridge

District officials are investigating a mechanical issue that caused a bridge in Port Carling to malfunction.

Representative Molly Ross says the district has hired a consultant to review the incident. The bridge was stuck in the up position on Monday, blocking all traffic using Highway 118 for over half an hour. Ross says a newly installed remote control system allowed district officials to quickly resolve the issue.

She says plans are in place to rebuild the lifting mechanisms in the offseason later this year.  Until then, the district will have a contractor on site every time the bridge is lifted.
