Cooling centres available in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst

With some oppressively hot and humid weather on its way, Bracebridge and Gravenhurst are setting up cooling centres.

In Bracebridge, they’re going to be the Public Library at 94 Manitoba Street, and the lobby of the Sportsplex at 110 Clearbrook Trail. In Gravenhurst, it’s the Centennial Centre at 101 Centennial Drive.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to be in the low to mid-30s but in spots will feel as hot as the mid-40s. Overheating can have serious effects on your health. Signs that you’re overheating include, but aren’t limited to, cramps, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. Heat stroke can be fatal in some cases so it’s important to seek immediate medical attention if you believe you or someone else is experiencing it.

During this hot spell there are some steps you can take to avoid overheating, such as drinking plenty of cool water, staying in the shade, using air conditioning when possible, and avoiding strenuous physical activity. You can find more details about the cooling centres at the Town of Bracebridge website and the Town of Gravenhurst website.
