OPP urges cottagers to secure valuables when closing up the cottage

This long weekend is the perfect opportunity for cottagers to close their vacation homes for the winter. But, Huntsville OPP Constable Lynda Cranney says if your cottage isn’t closed properly, its more vulnerable to would-be thieves.

Cranney also suggests having some check your cottage on a regular basis and bring your valuables home. However, if you plan on leaving things, Cranney suggests you do what you can to keep them from getting stolen.

She says you should document what you have.

The OPP has an engraver you can sign out to inscribe some sort of ID in a secret spot on your belongings. This will make it easier for police to return any stolen items to its rightful owner.
