A Muskoka area man’s wallet is a lot lighter after some hunting fines.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Utterson’s Daniel Vandenboorn pleaded guilty to carelessly using a firearm to hunt and hunting at night. He was fined $4,000 and $1,000 respectively for the violations.
On top of the fines he’s also been suspended from hunting for two years. He won’t be eligible to hunt again until he retakes and passes the hunter safety course and reapplies for a hunting licence.
The fines stem from an incident that happened back on November 13th last year. The MNRF says Vandenboorn had been driving in to work very early that morning along Windermere Road near Bracebridge. He came across a buck and a doe on the road, stopped, loaded his rifle, and shot the buck twice while they were both still on the roadway. Vandenboorn left his deer seal behind accidentally while loading the buck onto his truck, which helped officers track him down.
