Lake of Bays mayor’s seat eyed by two new candidates

The mayor’s seat in Lake of Bays is getting a lot of interest.

Three candidates have submitted paperwork to run for the position. This includes two-term Lake of Bays Councillor Terry Glover. Glover says as a local business owner he’s seen first-hand the struggle many businesses are facing staffing issues. He says the root of this problem is the lack of affordable housing. He says with summer coming many businesses are wondering how they’ll deal with the tourist rush.

Glover will be running alongside newcomer Charles Cooper who has served as the President of the Tasso, Toad, Camp and Blue lakes cottagers association between 2009 and 2015. He says his platform is focused on three pillars, which are sustainable communities, infrastructure and innovation. Cooper says Lake of Bays, like much of Muskoka, is facing a serious issue with housing, which impacts local businesses, the fire department which depends on volunteers and classrooms in public schools. He says the previous mayor and council served the community well, and he looks to continue that work.

Lake of Bays current Mayor Bob Young is rounding out the race for leadership as the third candidate. You can keep up to date with all Lake of Bays municipal candidates here.
