Riders may have to wait before hitting ATV trails

The start of this year’s ATV season may be delayed.

That’s according to Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs Administrative Assistant Denise Erickson, who says typically trails would open on May 1st. But because of this year’s weather, Erickson says clubs might keep their trails closed until May 15th.

There is no online map of what trails are open, but Erickson says the OFATV is working on creating one. She recommends contacting your local ATV club to ask which trails are open, and to get maps.

But, riders are being reminded about the importance of staying safe. Erickson says the OFATV wants to make sure younger riders choose the right ATV.

Erickson says it’s also important to know where you are legally allowed to ride.
