Canadian Blood Services is taking steps to allow more donors through the doors. Muskoka CBS Territory Manager Elaine St. Pierre says new eligibility criteria came into effect this week, which reflect current infectious disease data, align with international standards, and address other considerations that may have previously prevented Canadians from donating.
She says CBS is estimating that change could increase donors by around 11,000 people over the course of the year. St. Pierre says another change surrounds the use of alcohol and marijuana.
She says if you’ve never donated before, go to the Canadian Blood Services website and take the eligibility quiz, saying many people who originally thought they couldn’t donate find out they actually can.
There are two upcoming donor clinics in Muskoka next month; May 12th in Huntsville and May 15th in Gravenhurst. Book an appointment online, call 1-888-2-DONATE, or drop in.
