As a major winter storm moves into Ontario, emergency officials want you to be prepared.

Environment Canada is warning the storm on Friday could bring snow and an ice storm to cottage country. Parry Sound Fire Chief Dave Thompson says having a 72-hour emergency kit on hand is a good idea.

He says you should keep the essentials in mind when packing such a kit

Thompson says if the power does go out, you shouldn’t call 9-1-1 unless you have a life-threatening emergency.

Environment Canada is warning cottage country could get hit with over 15 cm of snow and a mix of freezing rainfall as well. The MyMuskokaNow Newsroom will keep you updated on all weather and road conditions as the storm moves in.
