Ontario may be adding new jobs, but that trend isn’t extending to Cottage Country.

A recent StatsCan report shows the unemployment rate in Muskoka and Haliburton increased in March by 0.2 per cent to 6.3. The report shows about 170,000 people were employed in the region in March, which dropped by about 3,000 from February. Just over 11,000 people were unemployed in March.

Since November, the unemployment rate has grown 1.4 per cent for the area.

Stats Can reports Ontario added over 10,000 new jobs in March, but the provincial unemployment rate remained at 5.5 per cent.
