Daytime burn ban comes into effect on April 1st in Muskoka

Spring weather is moving in and many locals are preparing to clean up for the summer.

But, fire officials in Muskoka want to send out a reminder as you tidy up your homes and yards. On April 1st, the open-air burn ban will come into effect across the district. That means you can’t burn outside during the day without a permit. Fire officials are also reminding you that one person has to be with the fire until it’s completely out and it must be far enough away from other buildings, trees, and grassy areas. This is to prevent a fire from spreading. Some Parry Sound communities don’t allow you to burn things like brush, leaves or grass.

Some municipalities prevent any outdoor burning in outdoor areas and specific burning rules can differ for each municipality. If firefighters are called to your home because you’ve broken burning bylaw rules you can be charged for the visit and cost of equipment usage.
