Muskoka Fall Rowing Classic a success: Local rowers capture gold

Weather worked to the advantage of the 2014 Muskoka Fall Rowing Classic at Gull Lake Rotary Park this past Saturday. The turbulent weather from Friday night’s storm gave way to a cold front that brought better weather for regatta day. The Regatta Organizing Committee were thrilled by the number participants that increased by 33% from 115 participants/75 entries in 2013 to 153 participants/109 entries in 2104.  The event was well supported by local rowing clubs such as the Barrie Rowing Club, Georgian Bay, Rowing Club, Collingwood Rowing Club and host club Severn River Rowing Club. In total, 22 clubs attended the regatta, including crews from Genesee Rowing Club, New York State and Uozaki Rowing Club, Japan.

Local rowers Diane Barr and Kathryn Barr McGill, who row for the Severn River Rowing Club captured gold in the Masters Women (50+) double sculls event.  The Argonaut Rowing Club (Toronto) crew of Annie Hodkin and Sue Kitchen placed 2nd and Lillian Reinfels and Michelle Richardson from the Guelph Rowing Club finished 3rd. Crews will now prepare for the 44th Annual Head of the Trent regatta hosted by Trent University and the Peterborough Rowing Club on October 4th.
