Deep Freeze Fundraiser surpasses fundraising goal for Muskoka healthcare

Two health organizations serving Muskokans have extra money to work with.

That’s because the Dorset Health Hub Deep Freeze fundraiser was able to bring in $23,000 to be split down the middle between the hub and the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

The fundraiser, which had a target of $20,000, saw 14 people sleep in frozen huts last week.

Colin Reaney serves on the foundation’s Board of Directors and also sits on the board for the Dorset Community Partnership Fund.

He says the goal of the Dorset Health Hub is to improve access to healthcare in remote areas.

Reaney says half of the hub’s patients come from Haliburton County while the other half is from Muskoka.

The money raised four the Huntsville Hospital Foundation will allow it to purchase beds and mattresses as well as equipment for the emergency room.
