MID-DAY: TSX and Dow both open higher, Ontario pens deal with Shopify for marijuana sales
Bay Street is having a better start to the week after the TSX opened higher. The boost came from all ten main sectors, as world markets are on the rebound following major declines last week.
The TSX is up 150 points to 15,185.
The Dow also opened higher on the backs of technology and financial sectors. The Wall Street index is up 181 shares to 24,372.
Oil is up 0.77 to 59.97 a barrel.
Gold has gained 11.40 to 1,327 an ounce.
The Loonie is down to 79.28 cents US.
And traders are watching Shopify shares as the company recently penned a deal with Ontario to provide the retail infrastructure for marijuana sales. Provincial officials plan to use Shopify’s e-commerce system for both online purchases and in the specialized LCBO stores planned to open when marijuana is legalized nationwide.
