Man charged with kidnapping in court today
A Huntsville man is in Bracebridge court today to answer to kidnapping and a slew of other charges. Huntsville OPP says 27-year-old John Merkel allegedly kidnapped someone last Thursday and forced the victim to stay at a residence until Friday. Police say in that 24 hour period, the victim was assaulted and threatened. He was also taken to a local bank and forced to take out money from his account. Police arrested Merkel on Sunday. He is also charged with robbery, forcible confinement, assault, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. There is a publication ban on the victim’s identity and details on where this crime took place.
