Councillor Ruth Nishikawa launching defence against million dollar defamation suit
Muskoka Lakes councilor Ruth Nishikawa has filed notice that she intends to launch a defense against claims she defamed a fellow councilor. This after she was slapped with a one million dollar defamation lawsuit by fellow councilor Ron Brent. Brent’s suit claims Nishikawa wrote by email to Bala business woman Pat Arney and others, making defamatory comments towards Brent. According to court documents filed by Brent, Nishikawa alleged that Brent told Arney comments that were made during closed session of council. Nishikawa’s notice was filed September 4th by Patterson MacDougall LLP Barristers and Solicitors.
