MNRF lays charges for an illegal moose hunt

A Kitchener man is shelling out $1,500 for an illegal moose hunt. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fined the man for unlawfully hunting a bull moose without a license, which happened near Axe Lake Road in Sprucedale. His hunting license is also being suspended for a year, and he has to complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before he can buy another license.

The illegal hunt happened in late October. MNRF conservation officers inspected the moose and determined it was an adult bull, and had been mislabelled as a calf because of its size compared to a cow moose it was following. The man isn’t licensed to hunt bull moose, and so it was forfeited.

The man pleaded guilty in a Parry Sound court last week. The MNRF is reminding hunters to properly identify their targets.
