Team Epping looks ahead to this weekend’s competition at the Tankard

The runner-up of the last two Tankards is looking ahead to Sunday. Team Epping, which made of up Skip John Epping, Third Mathew Camm, Second Patrick Janssen, Lead Tim March, and Alternate Charley Thomas is coming off an eighth-place tie at December’s Roar of the Rings. The competition is an Olympic qualifier, and the winning men’s and women’s teams will represent Team Canada at this month’s winter games.

Epping says the field at the Roar of the Rings and this week’s provincial championships is quite different.

He says once that was done and the team didn’t make the Olympics, they refocused for the Tankard. He says right now, it’s the biggest event of the year for the team.

Epping says the team has played in a lot of competitions throughout the season, and this is his 11th provincials, so the strategy remains the same.

As of Friday morning, Team Epping had played three games. The team won twice and conceded one against the defending champions Team Howard. Games will continue until Sunday at the Canada Summit Centre. Tickets are still available on the Tankard website.
