UPDATED: Kearney prepares for biggest provincial Dog Sled Race this weekend

UPDATE: The event has been postponed to February 24th due to unsafe trail conditions. Officials say the Seniors Raffle in support of the races will still be run this weekend in tandem with Kearney’s SuperBowl Sunday celebration at the Legion.

One of Canada’s most iconic sporting events is coming to Almaguin this weekend.

Over 60 teams from all over North America are taking part in the 24th annual Kearney Dog Sled Races. The event runs for two days and will feature the province’s longest race at 35 miles as well as six and four-mile races for novice and younger mushers. Many of the races utilize trails that run along the western edge of Algonquin Park.

Officials say this is the largest dog sled event held in Ontario. You can find more details here.
