A major lock repair project in Port Carling could start earlier than expected.
District of Muskoka officials are asking for approval to fund a project to rehabilitate the concrete walls in the Large Lock. The district was originally planning on working on the Small Lock walls in 2019, but a recent inspection has found the walls in the larger lock need attention now. The work will cost nearly $1 million. District officials say the timing is perfect to get the work done as the lock is currently drained. If this project is approved, the rehabilitation of the Small Lock walls will be pushed to 2029.
District councillors will be reviewing this request during budget talks on Wednesday.
