Registration for 19th annual Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run closes Thursday

Time is running out to sign up for the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run.

Registration for the 19th annual snowmobile event to fight breast cancer closes Thursday, January 25.

Ontario Event Committee member Joan Wice says while the wet weather and warmer temperatures might discourage some, the chances of the event happening are in their favour.

Started by Kelly Shires in 2000, almost all of the proceeds from the Snow Run go to programs supporting breast cancer survivors.

Wice says Shires understood the hardship of battling breast cancer by fighting the disease herself and wanted to start a different kind of fundraiser.

Shires lost her battle with breast cancer in 2004.

The event has raised a total of $5 million and hopes to exceed the $500,000 raised last year.

The snow run takes place between February 2nd and 4th at Hidden Valley Resort in Huntsville.
