The push to get a Heritage District established in Bala is moving forward. A plan is now before council and a public meeting is planned for October 17th. MHBC Consulting’s Dan Currie told council the area being looked at is unique, as there is only a small amount of built infrastructure in it. While Districts serve to preserve local heritage, they come with some concern – properties next to the District would have to keep in line with some rules. They could not allow development that would cast shadows on the District or obstruct any views of it. They also could not isolate a heritage resource within the District area. Councillor and Mayoralty Candidate Don Furniss says the cost for it all will be borne by taxpayers and that everyone should know about what’s being planned.
