YMCA Simcoe/Muskoka receives $10,000 as part of Canada 150 campaign

A donation to the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is making sure a healthy lifestyle is accessible to everyone. Gore Mutual Foundation, in partnership with Howard Noble Insurance Brokers in Collingwood, has donated $10,000 to the Y.

Vice President of the YMCA Simcoe Muskoka, Brian Shelley, says the donation is going to go into the various programs they offer.

Shelley says one in ten campers at sleepaway camp receive financial assistance, and over 25 per cent of day campers also receive financial help. He says the YMCA has a mandate to ensure all programs are accessible regardless of someone’s ability to pay.

Some of the programs the YMCA offers include swim lessons, licensed child care, leadership training for the not-for-profit sector, and camps for children and families. Last year, the YMCA provided over $1 million in financial assistance to over 15,000 people of all ages.

This donation from Gore is part of its 150 Ways campaign, which is giving over $1 million to organizations across Canada to celebrate the country’s 150th anniversary.
