Snowmobile crash kills 24-year-old Bracebridge woman

A fatal snowmobile crash is under investigation by the OPP. It happened on Saturday night at the north end of Six Mile Lake in Georgian Bay Township. The OPP says 24-year-old Katlyn Courtnage from Bracebridge hit a tree near the shoreline by Sugar Loaf Lane, and died from her injuries at the scene.

Police say she was traveling with another snowmobile at the time of the crash, and speed was a factor. Technical collision investigators are still looking into the fatal crash.

Sledders are being reminded to ride within your abilities and to the trail conditions, which are updated on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website. The OPP also says no ice is safe ice, and always consider the risks before heading out onto frozen waterways.
