Nipissing University creates scholarship fund for Muskoka students in the wake of selling Bracebridge campus

Nipissing University may no longer have a campus in Bracebridge, but Muskoka students will still have a connection to the school. The university has set up an endowment fund, specifically for Muskoka residents, which will be used for scholarships starting in the fall semester of 2019.

The fund was put together by previous private donations to the school, which will be matched by the university. Gord Durnan, Chair of the Board of Governors for Nipissing University, says they wanted to find a way to continue honouring the donors.

Durnan says the scholarship will be available for students from anywhere in Muskoka, and so far the fund has around $210,000 in it.

Durnan says some money from the sale of the campus was put into the fund to match the donor’s dollars and they hope it will grow even more in the future.

Nipissing announced on Monday it was selling the campus to Dewey Educational Group, which will use it as a private high school for international students. Dewey is expected to take possession by the end of March.
