Huntsville looking for a use for Pitman’s Bay

Huntsville is going to looking at some youth programming options for Pitman’s Bay. Highlands Youth For Christ was using the space for its KidMax Summer Camp, but informed the town it would no longer be using it and so alternative options are being looked at.

The town had talked in October about using the area for its own programming. Three options were outlined; moving the Summit Summer Camp from the Active Living Centre/Summit Centre to Pitman’s Bay, offer a new Adventure Camp, or create a new program like a canoe and kayak program or an orienteering camp. However, town staff reported at this week’s committee meeting that there is limited staff to make that happen, and the cost would be too high.

Instead, town staff is going to issue a Request for Proposal to try and find a suitable youth program for 2018 and 2019. Staff will come back to committee when some options come in.
