Health unit officials want Muskokans to be prepared for extreme cold this winter

Health officials in Muskoka want to make sure you’re prepared for extreme cold.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will be working with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to warn Muskokans when extreme cold is expected. An Extreme Cold Warning is released by the ministry when the temperature in Muskoka is expected to drop below minus 35 for two hours or longer. Health officials say these extreme temperatures can cause frostbite and hypothermia quickly if someone is outside for too long. If extreme weather is predicted and you need to travel outside, officials say you should cover up all exposed skin to avoid getting frostbite.

The Health Unit will be taking advantage of its website and social media to release these warnings. You can also keep updated on extreme weather in Muskoka with the MyMuskokaNow Newsroom.
