Lakes and rivers not safe to use yet for winter activities in Muskoka

Watch your step and don’t take chances.

This is the message from the OPP as the lakes and rivers around Muskoka are starting to freeze over. Officials say just because ice is forming doesn’t mean it’s safe to walk on. You should always measure the ice before using it and if its three inches or less, it can’t handle your weight. Police say snowmobilers should avoid frozen areas whenever possible as well. Always stick to the land-based trails listed on the OFSC website.

You can find more details on where to find these trails here.
