Police warn snowmobilers to be patient as trails aren’t ready in Muskoka yet

You’ll be risking your own safety if you try using the snowmobile trails in Muskoka.

OPP Sergeant Peter Leon says just because there’s snow on the trails right now doesn’t mean they’re ready to use.

Last winter, over 20 people were killed in snowmobile crashes in Ontario. Seven of those deaths were in or near Muskoka. Leon says the OPP will be making sure that doesn’t happen again. He says officers will be out on trails looking for riders not wearing helmets or drinking and snowmobiling.

Leon says riders should also be responsible for checking conditions on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website before heading out.

There’s no word on when trails are expected to open.
