Ontario health officials reminding Muskokans to get a flu vaccine as soon as possible

Flu season is here and Muskokans are being urged to get protected. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer says everyone should get vaccinated for influenza as soon as possible, saying it takes up to two weeks to fully boost your immune system. Dr. David Williams says getting the flu can put you out of commission for longer than you may think.

Williams says this year’s vaccine protects against two strains of Influenza-A and one strain of Influenza-B. If you have a weaker immune system or are elderly, it’s even more important to get the vaccine according to Williams. He also says there are very few safety concerns about the vaccine.

The flu shot is available at any pharmacy across Muskoka at no charge with a valid Ontario health card. A full list of pharmacies where you can get the vaccine is available on the Ministry of Health’s website.
