MNRF is reminding hunters to be safe this deer hunting season in Muskoka

Keep safety in mind before you head out for deer hunting season.

The season has kicked off and runs until Sunday. Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Conservation Officer Shane Brownlee says it’s important for hunters to handle their firearms with care and attention.

Brownlee says hunters should also remember they are only allowed to hunt at certain times of the day.

Brownlee says it’s important to make sure to read the instructions on game seals. You should know if you’re allowed to hunt antlerless deer, like doe or fawn, or if you can only hunt deer with antlers over three inches long.

Brownlee also reminds hunters to get landowner permission before hunting on private property. If you shoot something and it finds its way onto private property, you still need permission to collect it.

Brownlee also wants you to never drink and hunt.
