Bracebridge officials are mourning the loss of a former mayor.
On Sunday, 90-year-old George Parlett passed away at the South Muskoka Hospital. Parlett was on Bracebridge Council from 1958 to 1961. He then took over as mayor of the community from 1975 to 1978. Parlett was also a local entrepreneur having owned Park Taxi, Parlett Transportation and a General Motors dealership. Mayor Graydon Smith says Parlett’s work in both the municipality and on the district council will never be forgotten.
The flags at the municipal office in Bracebridge were lowered to half-mast in memory of Parlett.
