Tips on being prepared for a power outage

Power outages can be frustrating if you’re not prepared. On Monday, over 10,000 people in and around Huntsville were in the dark for several hours after a power line caught fire in Utterson. Barney Owens is the Director of Response with the Office of the Fire Marshall and Emergency Management for Ontario. He says this outage can serve as a great reminder to always have an emergency plan and practice that plan.

Owens also says it’s a good idea have an emergency kit filled with essential items like flashlights, non-perishable food items and blanket for an outage. He also says you should also invest in small generator and have a working radio to listen to your local news station for power updates. Everyone should have an emergency plan in place that is easy to follow. However, this plan shouldn’t be limited to families only, but local businesses as well.
