Late turtle hatchlings are a welcome sign for rescue workers in Ontario

After a longer wait than usual, turtle hatchings are starting to emerge from their nests.

That’s according to Ontario Turtle Trauma Centre Off-Site Volunteer Kelly Wallace who says 2017 was a bad year for turtles travelling across roads in the province. Wallace says that as of September 30th, nearly 900 turtles have been admitted to the trauma centre, nearly 90% of them being vehicle-related.

While the hatchlings this year are later than usual, Wallace says it’s still a positive sign to see young turtles after such a tough year on them.
