District to set up 70 km detour for highway closure near Big Chute in October

Residents in Georgian Bay Township may have to use a significant detour in October.

The District of Muskoka is closing Muskoka Road 34 between Arts Lane and Trillium Lane near Big Chute on October 10th. Crews need to replace two aging culverts on the road that are quickly falling apart.

Depending on where you’re coming from the detour could add about 70 km to your drive. The detour runs along Upper Big Chute Road, Quarry Road and Highway 400. District staff has met with emergency officials to make sure EMS and fire crews won’t be held up.

Construction is expected to last about five weeks.
