Muskoka District officials need guidance to decide on Fairvern’s future governance

Muskoka officials want to know if the district would benefit from running Fairvern.

The district has a $10.5 million stake in this redevelopment project for the Huntsville non-profit long-term care home. The Fairvern Board wants to build a new facility that would offer 96 beds for seniors at a cost of just over $20 million.

Now district officials want to know if they should be involved in running the proposed new facility to protect their investment. District CAO Michael Duben says the plan is to hire Extendicare Canada Ltd. to answer this question.

The consultant would review the current Fairvern Business Plan for about $30,000. The district would then get a recommendation back by December. The redevelopment project is still waiting for final approval from the province.
