Construction crew keeps flames from spreading from excavator fire in Port Carling

A construction crew used quick thinking to stop a fire from spreading in Port Carling.
Muskoka Lakes Deputy Fire Chief Harry Baranik says firefighters were called to Scarcliffe Road where an excavator had caught fire. The machine had been idling on the site of a house tear-down when the driver noticed it started smoking. The construction crew used another excavator to push the flaming machine away from the house being torn down. When firefighters arrived they used foam to put the fire out. The damage is estimated to cost around $80,000 and the cause was mechanical.
