Run, walk or bike and help preserve a Canadian legacy

Raising money and honouring a national legacy. That’s the goal for the organizer of this weekend’s Terry Fox Run in Huntsville, Bill Coon. The national event raises funds for the Terry Fox Foundation, in honour of the 1980 Marathon of Hope. The foundation helps to fund research for a variety of different types of cancer, including lung, ovary, brain and oral.

Coon says that funding is important, but so is getting the Terry Fox message out there.

Coon says he hears a lot of feedback from the community about the run.

He says they hope to get 200 to 300 participants, and there will be around 100 volunteers helping out. Participants can walk, run, or bike a distance of one kilometre, five kilometres or ten kilometres. Coon says the course is very picturesque without too many hills.

It’s all happening this Sunday at Huntsville High School. It’s not too late to sign up, as you can register the morning of, and Coon says there is no minimum donation. Registration is at 8:00am and the run starts at 9:00am.
