Deadline approaching to help the district decide on the future of Santa’s Village Road

Blind corners, flooding and speeding cars. Those are just some of the concerns outlined by the District of Muskoka about Santa’s Village Road. It has hired a consultant to look at some options to upgrade the long stretch of road, and tomorrow is the last day for the public to provide input.

The consultant has outlined seven options for residents to consider. The first is to maintain status quo and do nothing to fix the issues except repave it. From there, the options include adding bike lanes and a multi-purpose trail, as well as curb and gutters. The estimated costs range from $2.1 million up to $6.2 million depending on how much work is done and the 25-year upkeep.

The 50 kilometre an hour road provides access to Santa’s Village, and is home to many properties, mature trees and wildlife.

Once the public comments have been received, the consultants are going to come up with a final report, and then design and construction is being proposed for 2018.

More information about the specifics of the seven options and where to send comments are available on the District of Muskoka website.
