Korbin South’s family is overwhelmed by the community support they’ve received these past few days. The Moose was able to spend some time with the boy’s family at the Burk’s Falls Welcome Centre on Wednesday. There a little shrine is set up in Korbin’s honour. His stepfather Tom Wyatt says Korbin was a great kid.

Korbin’s aunt Candace Tolch spoke on behalf of his dad, Mike, and the rest of the South family. Tolch says they would like to thank everyone.

Korbin fell into the Magnetawan River Sunday and his body recovered on Tuesday. He was only seven-years-old. Meanwhile, Korbin’s uncle, David James, read a statement to everyone who helped in the search and recovery and fellow community members. A video of this message has also been posted to our Facebook Page.

There’s one member of Korbin’s South’s family who’s day-to-day routine will change forever. Hailie is Korbin’s sister. She would start her morning everyday watching TV with her little brother. They would also take time to play outside together or watch a movie before bed. Hailie prepared this message about how much she will miss her brother.

Korbin’s mother, Nicole Bebee was also at the Welcome Centre Wednesday. She often stood next to the shrine, too distraught to speak much. The family says she too is so grateful for the outpour of condolences she’s received.

The family has scheduled a viewing at Legacy Life Centre on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Legacy Life Centre in Burk’s Falls. His funeral is set for Monday at 11am. Donations can be made out to the Opatovsky Funeral Home Dempster Chapel.
