Highway 60 construction expected to wrap up in October

Highway 60 drivers are going to notice some more delays this week. The southbound ramp to Highway 11 from Highway 60 will be closed starting at 8:00pm on Wednesday, and reopening around 8:00am on Thursday. Drivers will have to use Muskoka Road 3 as the detour. The off-ramp to Highway 60 from Highway 11 southbound is also still closed.

A spokesperson for Smiths Construction says workers are also at the Golden Pheasant intersection this week, and the work will be moving east. Drivers may notice some lane closures and delays in that area. Around nine kilometres of Highway 60 is being repaved in total.

The construction is expected to wrap up around October. However, officials say it’s tough to nail down an exact time because the work is dependent on weather as workers can’t pave in the rain.

A spokesperson for Smiths Construction says there haven’t been any complaints about the work, but they are paying for the OPP to be on scene as drivers are speeding through the area. The work was contracted out by the MTO for paving, culvert replacement, granular shouldering and electrical rehabilitation.
