Weekend road closures in Huntsville

Huntsville’s downtown core is going to be busy this weekend as Nuit Blanche North takes over Main Street. The road will be closed starting at 5:00pm on Saturday from West St. South to Brunel Road. It will reopen at 3:00am on Sunday morning.

Dara Howell Way will also be closed from King Street to Algonquin Outfitters. It shuts down at 5:00pm on Saturday and reopens at 2:00am on Sunday, however it is open to local traffic.

Nuit Blanche kicks off with a canoe lantern parade along Main Street. A lantern parade is a New Orleans style funeral march, and the parade is to mark the 100th anniversary of Tom Thomson’s death. It will make its way to the Muskoka River, where the lanterns will stay throughout the night.

You can make your own lantern today at the Other Gallery from 1:00pm to 5:00pm today and then take part in tomorrow’s parade, which starts at 8:00pm.

Over 30 art projects will be on display tomorrow night for the event.
