District Chair to be decided by general public in 2018

Muskokans are going to be able to vote for the Chair of the District of Muskoka for the first time. The provincial government has mandated that the head of district will be elected by the general public.

That means when you vote for mayor and councilors in 2018, you’ll also vote for the district chair. Before this provincial legislation was passed, the chair was elected by the District of Muskoka’s 22 councilors by secret ballot.

Anyone can run to be the district chair, but candidates have to be endorsed by 25 people. The district estimates the spending limit for candidates will be around $75,600.
