Former Muskoka Riverside Inn owner passes away after long battle with cancer

The well known former owner of the Muskoka Riverside Inn in Bracebridge has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Don McGillis died Saturday at the age of 61. Amongst his immediate family, he leaves behind his wife Brenda and his children Donald, Brittainy, Jonathan and the late David McGillis.
The family are receiving friends at the Reynolds Funeral Home’s Turner Chapel in Bracebridge on Tuesday between 7 and 9 pm and Wednesday between 2 and 4 and 7 and 9pm. His funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Gravenhurst on Thursday at 1pm, followed by cremation. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations are being made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Bracebridge Hockey.  In November 2013 it was announced that after almost 20 years, the Muskoka Riverside Inn in Bracebridge had changed hands. McGillis sold the 54-bed hotel, which is located on the Muskoka River to Vimal Patel and his family.
