Council hears Deerhurst Resort Village proposal

Over 150 people packed the Active Living Centre in Huntsville to learn more about the current resort village proposal at Deerhurst. During the special council meeting last night, most of the criticisms from residents centered around the possible four buildings on the West Riverfront area. The four story buildings would be west of Canal Road with 120 housing units. Residents either wanted it built somewhere else or gone completely. Other issues included possible water, light and noise pollution the village would cause to residents and wildlife along the canal, a proposed parking lot overlooking the canal and the traffic impact to Canal Road.

Overall, the proposed village centre will have 640 units of tourist commercial accommodation, resort residential units and limited retail commercial space. Council tabled the motion to accept this recommendation until the next council meeting on August 25th, 2014. Click here to view the the full recommendation.
